Spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, Roger Vincent, told The Sun: “Drivers are four times more likely to crash if they are on their mobiles. Even though you think you are in control you are not going to be able to react as quickly to the unexpected. We would urge Kate Middleton, and others, to realise the misery that is caused. It’s extremely sad, no matter who it is, that people are not getting the message.”
Because there is photographic proof and a witness to the event, the police now have an obligation to fine Middleton for her actions. New laws implemented late last year in the UK mean that motorists caught using their phones whilst driving face a maximum of 2 years jail but the general penalty is a fine of £60 and 3 points can be added to offenders' licences. The BBC reported late last year: 'In 2005, 13 deaths and 400 injuries were blamed on drivers using hand-held mobile phones.'
Let's hope Kate is taught a lesson and does not get special treatment.
